“Who am I”? I am a proud Royalist
Royalists emerge as leaders from “Royal Challenge – 2012”

The “Royal-Challenge 2012” has just been concluded successfully with 100 post O/L Royalists empowered to make a difference as leaders in a school and societal context.

The programme was organized by the Board of Management for Career Guidance Counselling and Skills Development, of the Royal College Union, to ensure that the students of Royal are empowered with leadership qualities to make a difference in school and in society.

Royal College Union boasts of a spate of leaders in their ranks throughout its history of 122 years, both in a Sri Lankan and global context. And to keep its traditions alive it has taken on the responsibility of grooming the next generation to take on the mantle of leadership, so that the distinct stamp of excellence and Royal stewardship is inculcated and preserved.

The programme aptly titled “Royal Challenge – 2012” was carefully designed to impart information, knowledge and practical sessions based on interesting and motivational themes to create a practical, self-sufficient student leader.

Leadership, team-craft, time management, goal setting, planning and organising, communication and public speaking, etiquette and decorum, coaching, mentoring and decision making, attitudes, values and motivation were all gift-wrapped eloquently as rich content of the ‘Challenge’.
Professionals and industry specialists were channeled for each lively session not only their time, but their expertise, personalities and humour on occasion was conducive to eliciting the best information. The young “Royal Challengers” thus ‘learnt’ much from ‘men’ and are now eager to showcase their talents and leadership skills.

The ultimate ‘challenge’ of this unique programme was aimed to create students/citizens who will have values and ethics, and be able to make a difference by their attitude, actions and service.

Project work is currently underway to create a difference at Royal College, where the ‘practical’ student will aim to be a Royal ‘leader’ bringing credit to Royal College through good values, ethics and leadership par excellence!

Royal College Union is proud to organise and fund this project as part of their continuous efforts to maintain standards of the country’s premier education institution.
